Handheld times are not reflected on the all-time lists or records as they have been converted to fully automatic times.

Prior to 1980 the 440 yards relay was run.  The conversion of 440 yards relay times to 400 meter relay times is the subtraction of .2 of a second.  Hand held times have added .14 of a second to convert to electronic timing. Only the best relay team of a given year is listed.
