Beverly Home Courses of the Past

The Cross Country program started in 1930.  From 1930 to 1953 Beverly’s home cross country course was at Roxbury Memorial Park at 1.7 miles.  It was then extended to 1.8 miles from 1954 to 1957.  In the late 1950’s to early 1960’s Beverly had no home course.  Then in the first half of the 1960’s Beverly established it’s home course at Rancho Park in nearby Cheviot Hills.  The course was 2 miles.  In 1969 due to construction the course was lengthened to 2.2 miles at the beginning of the season and then shortened to 2.1 miles at the end of the season.  From 1970 to 1976 the course at Rancho Park went back to 2 miles.  In 1977 the course was lengthened to 3 miles to conform to the CIF implementation of 3 mile competition.  The girls began competition at the Rancho Park 2 mile course in 1976, and then began competition at 3 miles in 1981.
